AKSHAYA THRITHIYA

AKSHAYA THRITHIYA, the day that is believed to bring good luck, wealth and success. AKSHAYA is a Sanskrit word, which means uncontrolled or never diminishing and the word THRIYA means the third day. It is also known as Akha Teej or Vaishakh Teej. There are many legends behind Akshaya Thrithiya. One of this is Pandavas received the Akshya Pathram from Lord Krishna on this day. Another one is, on this day Lord Parashuram was born. Also Lord Shiva is worshipped for health and good luck and Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped for wealth.

From Traditions, gold is brought on this day to make a bright start. Every Akshaya Thrithiya, people try to bring gold as ornaments or as coins. In this year 2013, Akshya Thrithiya starts on May 12 at 10.30 am and goes until May 13th afternoon.
